How will responsive design change with @element queries instead of @media queries?

The power of EQCSS for a front-end dev could be substantial. It used to be that responsive design only belongs on the shoulders of CSS, in case JS failed or lagged to load. However, our internet is blazing fast and browsers are incredibly performant, and unless you're just writing content, you're probably building something 10x more complicated (because you/we can) than you built even 5 years ago. So I do see an opportunity to change the future of CSS queries, but also don't think that JS is as big of a crutch for polyfilling CSS like it used to be.
